Last Ten Books That Came Into Kim's Possession

One of the best things about being an Ace/Roc Star is all the new and upcoming books that they send me. Eight of the ten books below came from them! A lot of the books come out in September so you’ll have plenty of time to pre-order a copy.

1. The Aeronaut's Windlass (The Cinder Spires #1) by Jim Butcher

This one doesn’t come out until September. My husband just finished it, and loved it. He kept laughing and said I would adore the cat. I’ve read the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher and really like it, so I’m excited about the first books in this new series.

2. Linesman by S.K. Dunstall

I just finished this one, and it was excellent. I don’t read a lot of Sci-Fi, but was glad I decided to read this one. Lots of action, and great characters who grow throughout the book. This is the first one in a new series and I am looking forward to the next one. You can find my review from yesterday HERE.

3. Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) by Ilona Andrews

This is the seventh book in the Kate Daniels series. After the Shift, magic is unpredictable. Sometimes you get to travel by car, other times by horse. Kate started the series in a guild, fighting the bad guys. By book seven, she has a detective business and is with the Beat Lord (Werelion), Curran. I really enjoy this series.

4. The House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard

This book sounds awesome! It’s a murder mystery on an epic scale dealing with the war in Heaven. The three main characters are a naive Fallen who is very powerful, an alchemist with an addiction and a resentful young man who can cast spells. Like I said, Awesome.

5. Sorcerer to the Crown (Sorcerer Royal #1) by Zen Cho

This debut novel doesn’t come out until September, and it’s another one that sounds awesome. It’s an historical fantasy where the Royal Magic has not only fallen into disgrace, but the reserves of it are slowly running dry. The Royal Sorcerer must travel to Fairyland to find out why, and he runs across an amazing cast of characters.

6. The Desert and the Blade (Emberverse #12) by S.M. Stirling

This is book two in the Change Series. I haven’t read the first one, so I’ll have to get my hands on it. This looks to be an Epic Fantasy. Here’s a short blurb from the book:

Reiko, Empress of Japan, has allied herself with Princess Ă“rlaith, heir to the High Kingdom of Montival, to find the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, the Grass-Cutting Sword, a legendary treasure of an ancient dynasty that confers valor and victory to its bearer. Ă“rlaith understands all too well the power it signifies. Her own inherited blade, the Sword of the Lady, was both a burden and a danger to her father, Rudi Mackenzie, as it failed to save the king from being assassinated.

7. Chapelwood (The Borden Dispatches #2) by Cherie Priest

This is book two in the Borden Dispatches series. Once again I didn’t read the first one, but after reading the description for this one, I’ll have to remedy that. This series is about Lizzie Borden. Yes, that Lizzie. The one with the ax. But it seems that she’s a “good guy” in this series, fighting against evil. It’s an interesting twist that I would like to see how it plays out.

8. Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart

This is a novelization of one of this nation’s first women who was a deputy sheriff. Constance Kopp is not like your typical woman of the early 1900’s. A family secret has sent her and her sisters into hiding. But through unforeseen circumstances, the family farm becomes under attack from the mob.

9. The Terrans (First Salik War #1) by Jean Johnson

First in a new series that takes place 200 hundred years before this author’s other National Bestselling series, Theirs Not to Reason Why.

I didn’t read the other series, but the way Johnson has it set up, I won’t need to, to enjoy this series. It’s about a precog who must rejoin the Space Force to stop an alien invasion, which has been prophesied. But do they have the right person?

10. Yours to Hold (Ribbon Ridge #2) by Darcy Burke

This is the third installment of the Ribbon Ridge series, and they just keep getting better. I flew through this one, it was so good. Each book tells the story of one of the Archer kids. (There’s 8 total; sextuplets, a single child and an “adopted” one.) It involves small town drama, a love story and some sexy, steamy scenes. I highly recommend this series.

What are the last ten books you've received or bought?
