Top Ten Books That I Would Really Like to Meet

1. Kevin Hearne
Author of The Iron Druid Chornicles

I fangirl for him so hard, that I'm surprised that he hasn't put a restraining order against me. Well, maybe if I COULD ACTUALLY MAKE IT TO A DAMNED SIGNING (!!!) he would. *sigh* The closest he's came to me is Dallas, but something always comes up. One day, I'll make it, and I'm sure there will be millions of people in line because he's so awesome.

Sad Kayla is sad.

2. Neil Gaiman
Author of Coraline, Neverwhere, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, American Gods, Sandman and many more terrific books

I loved Good Omens first out of all of his books, but I think The Ocean at the End of the Lane is the only one that I've read that I didn't love. I also love love love The Doctor's Wife, the episode of Doctor Who that he wrote. (I didn't care for Nightmare in Silver as much, but it's probably because I hate Clara.) Anywho, he's a handsome man who writes good stuff.

Audiobook Review: Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris

No comments:

Title: Midnight Crossroad (Midnight, Texas #1)
Author:
Charlaine Harris
Narrator: Susan Bennett
Publisher: Ace (Penguin)
Release Date: May 6, 2014
Acquired Via:
Personal Collection

From Charlaine Harris, the bestselling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale—populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that’s how the locals prefer it...

Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It’s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

There’s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There’s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there’s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he’s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own).

Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth...

My Review

I'm a bit of a book snob, in case you're new to the blog or haven't picked up on that yet. Though I loved both the Aurora Teagarden and Harper Connelly series by Charlaine Harris, the Southern Vampire Mysteries aka the "Sookie Stackhouse" books, left a bad taste in my mouth. It made me hesitant to pick up Midnight Crossroad though I've had a shiny, new hardcover sitting on my nightstand pile since its release day last year. And now that I've read it, I completely understand Tom Cruise's couch-jumping, and I'm hungry for more!

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I Wish Would Get Their Own Books

Top Ten Characters I Wish Would Get Their Own Books

1. Samwise Gamgee ("Sam")
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

To me, Sam was the true hero of The Lord of the Rings. Frodo would never have gotten anywhere without Sam.

2. Hermione Granger
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

I could have filled this list with only Harry Potter characters because they're all so interesting. I'm limiting myself to only two. Hermione is my favorite character out of all of Harry Potter, and I would love to see her get her own book.

Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Own The Most Books From

Ten Authors I Own The Most Books From
This one was pretty hard to figure out because a lot of my books are packed in boxes as I live in an apartment with only one bookcase, and I don't mark books as "owned" on Goodreads consistently. Also, my most read authors list doesn't necessarily correspond because I borrow most of the books I read from the library.

1. R.L. Stine
Over 50 Books

I think I own almost all of the 62 books in the original series of Goosebumps. I also own some of the spin-off series like Give Yourself Goosebumps. Apparently I was an obsessive reader even as a child.

2. Nora Roberts a.k.a. J.D. Robb
Over 30 Books

I've read through around 30 of the J.D. Robb series, In Death, and I own most of them as the library didn't have all of them, and I love Susan Ericksen's narration. I also pick up a lot of Roberts' books whenever I see them on sale at Audible or at book sales so there is really no telling how many are stashed in boxes somewhere.

Magnificently Magic Read-A-Thon - Day 3

No comments:

I knew that there was no way that I was going to be able to finish the books that I chose for the read-a-thon, but I really didn't think I'd be doing as poorly as I am. I mean, I didn't even get up my Day 2 update yesterday! *sigh*

Work has been really outrageous this weekend, and I'm not getting my usual 1 1/2 hours to myself each day. (Yes, that is how much time I have for reading, blogging, cleaning house, etc.) Hopefully, you guys will forgive me eventually.

My Progress

Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King (The Guardians #1) by William Joyce

Page 99/228

This is a really cute book that is very easy to read, and I WILL finish it for the read-a-thon, if nothing else! I expect to be done with it this evening, barring Hell, high water, and that other nonsense.

Yet to Come

Enchanted by Alethea Kontis
Ward Against Death (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer #1) by Melanie Card
Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris

Magnificently Magic Read-A-Thon - Day 1

Since I only have a million other things going on, I thought I would sign up for a read-a-thon! The lovely Faye at a daydreamer's thoughts is hosting, and I've really been looking forward to it. I know that I'm not going to be able to read a lot, but I am challenging myself to read three books (with one as back-up) before midnight on December 16th. None of these are really review books, but books that I really would like to read. Since it's just the weekend, it won't hurt things a bit to take a few days away from review books!

What I Plan to Read

Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King (The Guardians #1)
by William Joyce

Before SANTA was SANTA, he was North, Nicholas St. North—a daredevil swordsman whose prowess with double scimitars was legendary. Like any swashbuckling young warrior, North seeks treasure and adventure, leading him to the fiercely guarded village of Santoff Claussen, said to be home to the greatest treasure in all the East, and to an even greater wizard, Ombric Shalazar. But when North arrives, legends of riches have given way to terrors of epic proportions! North must decide whether to seek his fortune…or save the village.

W is for Werewolves

There aren't very many werewolf books that I have read and enjoyed. At least, nothing that I can think of right off the top of my head. Here are the books with werewolves as major characters that I have enjoyed:
