Top Ten Books I Read in 2014

1. Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas

Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

Sarah Maas really stepped up the game in this third installment. I really liked Throne of Glass, but Heir of Fire completely surpassed my every expectation.

2. Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) by Ilona Andrews

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it...

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear....

There hasn't been an Ilona Andrews book I haven't liked, and the latest Kate Daniels book is no exception.

November 25, 2014

This is out today!! MacLean is one of my favorite Historical Romance authors, and I can't wait to see how she ends one of my favorite series. I also can't wait to read Chase's story!

2. Glamour in Glass (Glamourist Histories #2) by Mary Robinette Kowal

I read Shades of Milk and Honey a few years ago, and I really liked it. I just never got around to reading the sequel. I've heard that the fourth book in the series is amazing, so I definitely need read it.

Top Ten Books on My Fall To-Be-Read List

1. The Perilous Sea (The Elemental Trilogy #2) by Sherry Thomas

I'm actually reading this one right now. I loved the first in the series, The Burning Sky. The series has some of my favorite tropes: mages, court politics and a tyrant to be overthrown.

2. Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy #1) by Ilona Andrews
October 28, 2014

A new series by Ilona Andrews! That's really all I need to know. I have an e-ARC, but I haven't brought myself to read it yet, because I'll be so sad when I finish it that I have to wait until next year for a new Ilona Andrews book.

Waiting on Wednesday (63): Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover by Sarah MacLean

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Title: Never Judging a Lady by Her Cover (The Rules of Scoundrels #4)
Author:
Sarah MacLean
Publisher: Avon (HarperCollins)
Release Date: November 25, 2014

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read through book 3 in the series, do not read any further

By day, she is Lady Georgiana, sister to a Duke, ruined before her first season in the worst kind of scandal. But the truth is far more shocking—in London’s darkest corners, she is Chase, the mysterious, unknown founder of the city’s most legendary gaming hell. For years, her double identity has gone undiscovered . . . until now.

Brilliant, driven, handsome-as-sin Duncan West is intrigued by the beautiful, ruined woman who is somehow connected to a world of darkness and sin. He knows she is more than she seems and he vows to uncover all of Georgiana’s secrets, laying bare her past, threatening her present, and risking all she holds dear . . . including her heart.

CHASE'S STORY!! Yes! I have to say that it took me a lot longer than it should have for me to realize that Chase was a woman, but once I figured it out, I was so intrigued. I just cannot wait to see how Chase landed where she is as the leader of the gaming hell hiding her identity.

What are you waiting on this week?
