Halloween Themed Top Ten

I don't really read that many horror novels anymore. I already have an over-active imagination and night terrors; I don't need to add novels to get more ideas. So this is just a mix-up of Halloween themed media.

Books to Read to Get in the Halloween Spirit

1. Coraline by Neil Gaiman

Coraline is one of the creepiest books for children I have ever read. I think if I had been a child when I read it, I might have had nightmares for a long time.

2. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

What's more spooky and creepy than graveyards around Halloween? Growing up in a graveyard!

Top Ten Tuesday: Classics

Top Ten Classics

I Have Read:

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

My introduction to witty Austen books and my all time favorite book, let alone classic.

2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

I've always heard that people either like Jane Eyre OR Wuthering Heights, and I've come to believe it. I loved Jane Eyre, but it took me the better part of a year and many failed attempts to read Wuthering Heights. I mean, I tried print, audio AND ebook version and FINALLY got through it. Anyone else read both and love one and hate the other?

Thenadays (6)

No comments:
For the sake of trying something different here at Bibliophila, Please, Thursday is now Thenadays.

This has been a completely insane week for me, so this post is going to be a little more lazy than usual. Since my post yesterday was about Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin, I thought I would share the original short story by Edgar Allan Poe with you. (Yes, I am well aware that I linked to it, but who actually clicked on it?) So without further ado:

The Masque of the Red Death
by Edgar Allan Poe

The "Red Death" had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal -- the redness and the horror of blood. There were sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men. And the whole seizure, progress and termination of the disease, were the incidents of half an hour.

Waiting on Wednesday (6)

No comments:
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Author: Bethany Griffin
Publisher: Harper Collins
Release Date: April 24, 2012

Everything is in ruins.

A devastating plague has decimated the population. And those who are left live in fear of catching it as the city crumbles to pieces around them.

So what does Araby Worth have to live for?

Nights in the Debauchery Club, beautiful dresses, glittery make-up . . . and tantalizing ways to forget it all.

But in the depths of the club—in the depths of her own despair—Araby will find more than oblivion. She will find Will, the terribly handsome proprietor of the club. And Elliott, the wickedly smart aristocrat. Neither boy is what he seems. Both have secrets. Everyone does.

And Araby may find something not just to live for, but to fight for—no matter what it costs her. (via Goodreads)

Let me first say that I absolutely love Edgar Allen Poe. If this book is anywhere near as dark or gruesome as the original short story, I am going to be over the moon. I have been squirmy-excited about this since I first caught wind of its existence. Yes, there is going to be the love triangle business happening, but I'll allow it if the writing and world-building is good. *winks*

Which book are you waiting for this Wednesday?
