Armchair BEA 2013: Day Two

Blogger Development

About six months after I've started blogging, I began socializing less with other bloggers and readers. I was caught up with several jobs and always being busy. Time was precious, and I didn't have much time to make new connections. I took a new full-time position within the library that eliminates the need to work several jobs, but I'm yet to reap the benefit of having more social time. And yes, I know this has hurt the blog in some capacity because I don't have much of a support network, and not many bloggers know me well.

I think making these connections with other bloggers is vital to blogger development because working with others is a great source of new ideas and support. When I first started blogging, I did some side reviews for Krazy Book Lady. Working with her taught me about blog tours, giveaway hops, and how great it can be to have a more seasoned blogger buddy in my corner.

I intend to get more active in the blogging community now that life is - hopefully - settling down a bit. I look forward to visiting other bloggers, commenting, and all that fun stuff. I still have a few blogging acquaintances that I made back when I had more time to do such things, but I know they are probably quite put out with my silence.

Genre Fiction

I know there are loads of people who look down their noses at genre fiction, but seriously, any sort of reading is awesome. I always tell my daughter that I don't care what she reads, even if it's a cereal box, as long as she's reading. Anywho, I'm a super huge fan of genre fiction. You name it, I probably read it - urban fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction (and romance), horror, epic fantasy, and the list goes on. The only ones I don't generally read are chick lit and christian fiction, but I have been known to enjoy a chick lit novel once in a blue moon. Just for fun and because I love lists, I'll name a novel that I enjoyed (not necessarily a favorite because I have the dumb today) for each genre that I listed above.

Urban Fantasy: Hounded by Kevin Hearne
Science Fiction: The Cat Who Walks Through Walls by Robert A. Heinlein
Historical Fiction: Jepp, Who Defied the Stars by Katherine Marsh
Historical Romance: The Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory
Horror: Watchers by Dean Koontz
Epic Fantasy: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
Chick Lit: 150 Pounds by Kate Rockland

What are some of your favorites?

  1. One of my favorites is The Stand by Stephen King. I'm a big fan of Horror and especially those containing plagues of some sort.

I like most genre fiction, too. I haven't read any of the books you listed but I'll have to look into them!

I talk about some of my favorites in my post.

  3. Book blogging can definitely be a lot of work, and sometimes, unfortunately, it has to take the back burner. I hope you can soon find a bit more time to socialize with other bloggers and blog! ArmchairBEA is a great time to get back into the swing of things and interact with the community :)

I love historical fiction, but I haven't heard of Jepp, Who Defied the Stars so I am off to check that out.

I also blogged about my development as a book blogger and genre fiction.

    Have a great week! :)

  7. Making connections is certainly vital, but I think that jobs, and for me, school, still takes a higher priority. Blogging is just something that is on the side, and really something to do for fun! :)
