Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Title: Ten
Author: Gretchen McNeil
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Release Date: September 18, 2012
And their doom comes swiftly.
It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives – an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie each have their reasons for being there (which involve T.J., the school's most eligible bachelor) and look forward to three glorious days of boys, booze and fun-filled luxury.
But what they expect is definitely not what they get, and what starts out as fun turns dark and twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine.
Suddenly people are dying, and with a storm raging, the teens are cut off the from the outside world. No electricity, no phones, no internet, and a ferry that isn't scheduled to return for two days. As the deaths become more violent and the teens turn on each other, can Meg find the killer before more people die? Or is the killer closer to her than she could ever imagine?
Does this not sound amazing? I spent my early teen years devouring R. L. Stein, Christopher Pike, Lois Duncan and others in that genre. Some were scary, some were cheesy, but I enjoyed them all the same. Unfortunately, it does not seem that there are many horror novels floating around for teens. (I'm not a teen, nor am I too far "in the loop", so I may be wrong.) I'm so glad to see this one.
The difference that is probably going to be between Ten and those aforementioned books is that Gretchen McNeil Possesses (hardy har har) the ability to scare the crap out of people. Okay, me, but I'm sure it'll scare you, too! See my bad pun back there? It was her first novel which I could only read during the day! Yes, I am a wuss, but I am a wuss that cannot wait to read Ten.
Be sure to add it to your TBR list on Goodreads!
