Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Have Read So Far This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Books I Have Read So Far This Year

1. Scarlet (Scarlet #1) by A.C. Gaughen

This is definitely the best book I've read so far this year, especially considering I almost didn't read it. To get over the dialect, I listened to the audiobook, and the book is just amazing. You can read my review HERE

2. Code Name Verity (Code Name Verity #1) by Elizabeth Wein

This was such a great story of friendship set against the background of World War II.

3. The Iron Duke (Iron Seas #1) by Meljean Brook

I wasn't expecting this amazing steampunk book when I picked this up a few days ago. I guess I didn't pay attention to the genre, but I was expecting an urban fantasy, and actually read a paranormal romance. I loved it though.

4. The Burning Sky (The Elemental Trilogy #1) by Sherry Thomas

This had the feel of Harry Potter and a lot of other YA fantasy novels, especially wizard/witch novels. But, all of the overused tropes came together and worked for Thomas.

5. Murder of Crows (The Others #2) by Anne Bishop

This was a great follow-up to Bishop's Written in Red. Bishop has created a great alternate world were the monsters are actually monsters and eat people.

6. The Bone Season (The Bone Season #1) by Samantha Shannon

I doubt I would have picked this up without Kayla's glowing recommendation. You can read Kayla's review HERE. I'm so glad I did because it was such a great read. It is a little confusing at first, but there is a glossary of all the strange words in the back.

7. Binding the Shadows (Arcadia Bell #3) by Jenn Bennett

I just found this series this year, and I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner. The third book was my favorite of the series, but they are all fantastic. You can read my review of Binding the Shadows HERE. The fourth, and final book, released this year. I equally loved the first book in Bennett's other series, Roaring Twenties.

8. Black Dog by Rachel Neumeier

I have such a respect now for this publisher, Black Dog. All of the books I've picked up from them have been phenomenal. The thing I loved most about this book was that the main characters were not white; they were from Mexico. I loved to hear about the food and some of the customs. Also, I'm still a sucker for a werewolf story, especially a different take on the old tale. Plus, it's a standalone!

9. Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy #1) by Danielle L. Jensen

Another great book from Strange Chemistry. I loved the story and the world that Jensen created, especially since it was based on trolls, and I have not read that many tales regarding trolls. You can read my review HERE and Kayla's review HERE

10. The Lost (The Lost #1) by Sarah Beth Durst

This was probably my most surprising read of the year. I wasn't expecting the great, moving story that I fell into when I picked this up. You can read my review HERE.
