Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Should Be in Your Beach Bag

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Books That Should Be in Your Beach Bag

1. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

A light YA contemporary set on the beach - perfect beach read. Almost any Sarah Dessen book is the perfect beach read, but I picked this one just because it is set on the beach.

2. One for the Money (Stephanie Plum #1) by Janet Evanovich

Light, hilarious with a touch of mystery. Plus, Lorelei King is one of the best narrators, and I can't imagine reading this series any other way.

3. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy #1) by Douglas Adams

A fantastic sci-fi read that is at once silly and absurd but also a clever commentary on humans and life.

4. The Lost (The Lost #1) by Sarah Beth Durst

This one published on May 27, 2014, so it kicked off the summer reading. I loved it, and I'm sure this is going to be one of my favorites from this summer, if not the whole year.

5. The Line (Witching Savannah #1) by J.D. Horn

The second one in the series, The Source, comes out today, and if you haven't read The Line, then you should definitely check it out first.

6. Skin Game (The Dresden Files #15) by Jim Butcher

Skin Game came out on May 27, 2014, and I'm currently listening to it through Audible. It's a great addition to this fantastic urban fantasy series, and James Marsters as narrator is one of the reasons I love this series so much.

7. Banishing the Dark (Arcadia Bell #4)by Jenn Bennett

Banishing the Dark was published on May 27, 2014, and it was a great ending to the series. Jenn Bennet was one of my newly discovered urban fantasy authors this year, and I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys the genre.

8. Partials (Partials Sequence #1) by Dan Wells

I started this series last summer and loved it. The last of the series, Ruins, was published in March of this year, and it was a great end. Plus, Julia Whelan narrates, who always does an amazing job.

9. Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles #1) by Kevin Hearne

I started this last summer and it quickly became a favorite urban fantasy series. The newest book, Shattered, will be published on June 17, 2014. The narrator is Luke Daniels, who is also one of my favorite narrators.

10. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

I read my favorite Gaiman book last summer, and I highly recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy, Gaiman or just books in general.

    1. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is probably one of my all-time favorite books. And you're right, you can't go wrong reading it this summer. I'm totally going in for the audiobook after I read Dreams of Gods and Monsters and Shattered.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    2. If you enjoyed the first of the Dresden Files, you definitely need to keep going in the series, because they just keep getting better. Probably around book 8 is when I went from liking the series, to loving it.

  2. Great list. I've only read Along For the Ride. Do you have any suggestions for what other book on this list I should start with?

    1. I'm jumping in on this one - HOUNDED!

    2. If you like Hounded check out the Dresden Files; there are a lot of similarities. If you want contemporary then check out the Stephanie Plum series; it's good for entertainment and has some laugh-out-loud silliness. And if you've never read Gaiman, start with Neverwhere.

  3. Amber, it scares me sometimes how in sync our reading tastes can be. But then again, we can always keep complimenting each other on what great literature we read. :-)

    1. Speaking of, we only have 2 weeks to wait for Shattered! I'm thinking the universe shares our tastes as the release date just so happens to correspond with the date I receive my next Audible credit. :)

    2. I'm one of the losers that has a platinum membership, so I already had it preordered. One credit a month isn't enough for me except when I'm on ASoIaF book or something.

  4. Yes, yes, yes to your first three books! They are excellent!
