Top Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

Real Places

1. New York

Ever since Sex and the City, I have dreamed of living in New York even though I have never even visited. I just know it's my place. I just couldn't live in a shoebox for $2,000 a month.

2. England

Probably a majority of all of my books are set in England. It's so full of history and interesting places. I want to visit soooooo bad. It would be awesome if I got to experience it the same as Diana did in Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness.

3. Ireland

Ireland is one of the most gorgeous places on Earth, and I would love to visit all of its romantic and some creepy sites. I'll get to "visit" in a few weeks when Blood Magick by Nora Roberts releases.

4. Prague

Prague is one of the places I'm sad that I didn't get to visit while we were in Europe. I've heard that it's an awesome place to visit. Karou from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor would be a good tour guide.

5. Chicago

Chicago is another American city that has a lot of culture and so much stuff to do. I even want to try a pizza from Chicago and I don't even really like pizza. Wizard Harry Dresden Storm Front by Jim Butcher could show me the paranormal world of Chicago as well.

6. San Francisco

Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett actually takes place in Morella which is a little outside San Francisco, but it's always been a place I want to visit.

Fictional Places

7. Hogwarts
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

I'm still kind of upset that I never received an acceptance letter to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

8. Graceling Realm
Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Only as long as I get to have a really cool grace, and get to be friends with Katsa, Po and co.

9. Gertrude Hunt (The Inn)
Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews

Of course I want to visit a prescient inn who gets to open doors to other galaxies and has guests from even more galaxies.

10. The Iron Seas
Iron Seas by Meljean Brook

The alternate history world of the Iron Seas is a pretty cool steampunk world. I think I would want to have the nanotech bugs, even though there are lots of terrible side effects.

  1. I agree about Ireland! I cannot wait to visit soon also when I read Blood Magick. I forgot I preordered that so I'm excited all over again now. Chicago is pretty fabulous-I recommend visiting for good pizza :)

  2. I forgot Chicago! Definitely want to go there, mostly because of Sara Paretsky's books (haven't read the Dresden Files yet). And Divergent.
Prague is amazing, I went there after reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone and that really added to my experience :) San Francisco, Ireland, and London are also deeply steeped in bookishness for me. I can't go to London without thinking of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.
